Brits, Czechs and Poles oppose EU push on justice and home affairs

Subsidiarity basically means that if you can do something for yourself you do it rather than have some "higher authority" do it for you and tell you how to live your life. Unfortunately, as I noted here, the EU believes that subsidiarity means exactly what it wants it to mean, namely that no nation state has any competence in any matter, and it should run all their affairs.

I am pleased to say that the Brits, Czechs, and Poles have opposed the EU push to control justice and home affairs. According to EU Referendum the rather handsome Mirek Topolanek, the Czech PM, β€œis adamant that the EU's new treaty should not include the Charter of Human Rights and is sticking to his government's view that EU reform should make it possible to transfer powers not only from national governments to Brussels, but also in the opposite way".

What a concept. I will be interested in seeing how this proceeds. If it doesn't, I imagine that Czech President Vaclav Klaus will be gazing with interest at the Swiss, who trade with the EU but run their country without interference from the EU and without handing over billions of Swiss francs.

The best of the Brits produced thousands of indispensable inventions, developed wildly popular sports, designed romantic houses and gardens, created astonishing literary masterpieces, lived with style and humour, tackled dangerous missions with daring and ingenuity, and fought with indomitable courage to establish and protect the free world. We aim to describe their superb achievements and extraordinary lives. We celebrate creativity and common sense, fair play and compassion, bravery and self-discipline, rational thought, freedom, faith, and wit.
