Nanny Wild and the good and the bad of country life
Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames has been banned from driving for two months after pleading guilty to driving a quad bike and cart with no insurance. Trundling might be a better description of his tortoise-like advance down a country road. Soames and his companions were following a New Year's Day hunt.
The case resulted when he was filmed near his home by anti-hunt monitor Simon Wild. (Mr Wild's is the voice you hear on the video.) Appearing at Crawley Magistrates Court, Mr Soames was fined £200 and asked to make a £15 victim impact payment and to pay £35 costs.
Mr Wild would seem to have career possibilities working as a nanny - Nanny Wild - though not the kind of nanny you or I would have liked.
Over the last decade I have come to realise how much of all I value depends on ideas and traditions nurtured by Brits. I hope you will be inspired by what you find in this blog/website, and that you will help us to make it grow in brilliance and depth by becoming a Friend.

We aim to describe their superb achievements and extraordinary lives. We celebrate creativity and common sense, fair play and compassion, bravery and self-discipline, rational thought, freedom, faith, and wit.
