Army Chief Speaks about Iraq, Britain and Spiritual Crisis
Even here in Oregon, the comments of General Sir Richard Dannatt have caused a stir. Sir Richard thinks that the presence of British soldiers in Iraq may be so intensely disliked by the Iraqi people that it is exacerbating violence in the country. Sensible people might also conclude that violent Islamists will continue to murder Iraqis in their effort to take over the country once the rather small British force leaves.
Many people have seized on these remarks, but we were surprised to read other comments made by Sir Richard, as reported in the TIMES ONLINE .
The Army Chief bluntly said, "'When I see the Islamist threat in this country I hope it doesn’t make undue progress because there is a moral and spiritual vacuum in this country.'"
The moral and spiritual leadership of Brits who advanced the cause of freedom elated us when we created LIBERTY! THE TIMELINE. We doubt that exhilarating combination of reason and spirit has disappeared from Britain.
