Into the Sands of Egypt

Sometime I'd like to investigate why Brits have been so driven to explore the far regions of earth. Heroes has some of their quixotic stories.

Howard Carter was one of those adventurers. Without much education and at first without any money, Carter tunneled into the sands of Egypt's past. It was hard, dusty work at very low pay, but Carter kept at it, and on this date in 1922, he found Tutankhamun's tomb (subsequently designated KV62), by far the best preserved and most intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings at Thebes. You can read more about Carter, the treasures and the curse here.
