Interesting News About the Young People of Britain
According to the Google poll reported in the Guardian, young British people are fiercely proud to be British, and value the nation's history. Fifteen thousand young respondents to a Google survey submitted a doodle based on their interpretation of Britishness. Only 3% featured celebrities. Fifty-two percent used the Union flag. Over 30% picked Big Ben. Another third depicted the monarchy. After the Queen it was Shakespeare, Harry Potter, and James Bond.
The Guardian quotes a parenting expert who wrote the forward to Google's report: ". . .the vast majority of entries investigated much deeper themes - Britain's rich history and heritage, its industry and inventiveness, its monarchy and cultural uniqueness."
This fits with our experience of British youth, which is one reason we are a hopeful, not a jaundiced website. You can read about some of the young mavericks who have been so supremely inventive here.
