Doctor's Advice - Eat British Eggs
Headlines in the Times today say that a criminal enquiry is underway into foreign eggs. Cheaply produced, factory-farmed eggs from a number of overseas countries have been repackaged and labelled as free range. Many of these eggs originate from Spain. A box of six eggs from Spain has a one in six chance of being infected with salmonella. These eggs are sold to Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, and Morrisons.
I checked my fridge, and the free-range eggs are from the farmer's market in Winchester so I am safe. The shorter the food chain, the safer the food, so it is not surprising that Britain's wonderful farmers' markets have taken off. Buy British, particularly for food.
