The Armchair Adventurer who did so much to bring entrepreneurial Brits to Virginia, and the Queen on a visit 400 years later, is here.
Gov. Tim Kaine announced on Wednesday that Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will visit Virginia in May 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary of the settlers' landing in Virginia. The Governor also said, "We look forward to celebrating the deep historical and cultural connections between Virginia and the United Kingdom."
Jamestown struggled to survive in 1607, but the Queen's last visit to Jamestown in 1957, on the 350th anniversary, spurred the development of Jamestown and Williamsburg as tourist sites.
