Brit becomes highest-paid sportsman in the US
David Beckham, the former England captain, is moving to LA with his wife, Victoria, to try to rejuvenate major league soccer and profits in the US. Bobby Moore, George Best, and Pele have all tried in the past, but arguably Beckham has the golden opportunity. The team he is playing for, the Los Angeles Galaxy, is owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, which also owns the Millennium Dome in London. It has been suggested that Beckham’s celebrity has outstripped his talent, but the President of AEG thinks that Beckham will have a greater impact on soccer in America than any other athlete.
