An Oscar for the Furnace
Helen Szamuely of EU Referendum reminded us that a consortium of Brits received an Oscar for the development and design of film editing software known as the Furnace.
Furnace software helps to delete without a trace any actors or objects that the director wishes eliminated from a scene. It has been used "on a range of high profile films" including Casino Royale and The Lord of the Rings.
Dr. Bill Collis, Simon Robinson and Ben Kent from the Foundry, Dr. Anil Kokaram from Trinity College, Dublin, and video processing group Sigmedia were honoured. Though I feel an Orwellian twinge – it sounds perfect for editing real people out of video history – I also say Kudos!
