The freedom of virtue

Theodore Dalrymple believes that "In Britain, it is not so very long ago that most - of course not all - people had an idea of virtue that was intensely focussed on their own individual conduct, irrespective of whether they were rich or poor." What has happened to those who lost that individual focus is the subject of his essay.

It's worth reading. Warning: Barbed wit.

Thanks to the barrister at Maggie’s Farm for bringing it to my attention.
