American Bill Bryson is new president of the Campaign to Protect Rural England
Say, is there Beauty yet to find?
And Certainty? and Quiet kind?
Deep meadows yet, for to forget
The lies, and truths, and pain?
Rupert Brooke, “The Old Vicarage, Grantchester”
Best-selling American writer and rambler Bill Bryson will fight to protect “the miracle” of the British countryside. "It is one of the great accomplishments of the British people to have had this incredibly tightly packed densely populated landscape and to have used it productively for so long and still have kept it so beautiful,” Bryson said. According to the Telegraph, he is concerned about litter.
Bryson also says he has put his writing on hold, which suggests that he has an idea how big a job he is facing, and litter is the least of it. What beautiful country it is!
