"You will not be overcome"
After I wrote about Julian of Norwich (the post appears below), I began thinking how interesting it was that a woman contemplative of the 14th century could perfectly capture in a few words the strength that inspired Christians as diverse as Stephen Langton, Simon de Montfort, John Lilburne, William Penn, Thomas Clarkson, Anthony Ashley Cooper, Emmeline Pankhurst, and Martin Luther King in their struggle for freedom and representative government.
“Our dearworthy Lord did not say, 'You will never face trouble, you will never feel sorrow, you will never be afflicted.' He said, 'You will not be overcome.'”
