News from Stormont
After elections in Northern Ireland, Unionist Ian Paisley has just been sworn in as First Speaker with Martin McGuinness, ex-IRA, as his deputy in the assembly at Stormont. They are promising to run Northern Ireland together for the benefit of all its people. The Independent reports, "Anglo-Irish relations are in a golden era, Unionists are developing friendly relations with the Irish Republic."
There are now devolved "parliaments" in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. These are, an American supposes, rather like the state governments in the United States. England seems to be the United Kingdom's Cinderella.
