I was pleased to see that another Brit just became Snooker World Champion. (I say another Brit, but it may be that only Brits play this game.) The champion is John Higgins.
Snooker was devised in the officers’ mess in Jabalpur, India, in the late 19th century. It’s a “pocket billiards variant”. In this century it has become associated with excessive drinking and drug use, but Mr Higgins is not tinged with debauchery. He has turned teetotal, and he attributes his recent form to this. I note we’ve failed to include snooker in our sports file, but will do so quickly.
