Thinking about Peter Hillary

Peter Hillary, son of Sir Edmund Hillary, who first conquered Everest, was climbing K2 with Alison Hargreaves on August 13. They were very close to the peak they had been trying to reach for months when Peter noticed the fine weather beginning to change. He decided to head back down.

It took nerve for Peter Hillary to resist the allure of going for the K2 peak when the goal seemed so close. "He has climbed many of the world’s highest peaks, surviving where others have not – largely through skill, determination and his own sixth sense" (Wiki). He now spends most of his time raising money for his father's Himalayan Trust, which builds schools and hospitals and funds conservation projects in the Himalaya.
