Cutty Sark burning

Report just in: The Cutty Sark, one of the fastest tea clippers in Victoria’s Empire before British merchants turned to steam, is burning in its berth at Greenwich. The restoration has gone awry. Hopefully this beautiful ship will be saved.

Correction: We wrote that the Cutty Sark was the fastest tea-clipper, but though she was very fast as her legendary race from China to Britain suggests, she came in second, having been reduced to sailing with an improvised rudder. Despite the setback, she arrived in remarkably good time.

Update: The unique iron frame has survived the fire, as did half the timbers and arefacts which had been removed before the fire began.
