Trust

Today it's said that "laws replace trust" in Britain.

But as you know, they can't replace it.

We understand the importance of trust to personal relationships, and we know the actions that sustain it. How can we restore trust to civic life? Government passing another law will not do it. I think this is the kind of question that would interest children in school. What does trust mean to them personally? Ask them to look at running a business without trust. Move on to history. The failure of trust between John and the bishops and barons; between Henry III and Montfort; between Charles I and Parliament; between Parliament and people.

History suggests that lack of trust in Britain catalyzes change. Only the last example awaits its revolution.
