Darcey Bussell says goodbye
Darcey Bussell, CBE, is saying her final farewell to the Royal Ballet this week. Her last performance will be shown live on BBC2 at 9pm this Friday.
Her beautiful simplicity and emotional truth as a dancer, her mysteriousness and sweetness and dazzling technique have been shared with audiences since she became the Royal Ballet's First Soloist and Principal in 1989. She has danced in most of the great classical ballets, and in works by Kenneth MacMillan, Frederick Ashton, Twyla Tharp, and Balanchine.
Married to Angus Forbes and the mother of two young daughters, she is ready to retire. Her public is not ready to say good bye.
