World War II through the eyes of downed airmen

The Ministry of Defence reports,

Now, for the first time, a major exhibition has opened which is dedicated to celebrating the actions and bravery of Allied aviators. . .

With the help of archive documents and parts of aircraft found during archaeological excavations, the "Fallen from the sky" exhibition, which recently opened at La Coupole near St-Omer, tells ten true stories of pilots and crews shot down between 1940 and 1944 over Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

The exhibition recalls the human experience - sometimes tragic, sometimes happy. . .museum exhibits include some of the astonishing objects given to Allied airmen to help them escape if forced to land in enemy territory: maps printed on silk scarves, miniature compasses. . .
