Apples, butter, cheese, making love

ITEM Commission Regulation (EC) No 579/2007 of 25 May 2007 fixing the minimum selling price for butter for the 64th individual invitation to tender issued under the standing invitation to tender referred to in Regulation (EC) No 2771/1999
ITEM Commission Regulation (EC) No 587/2007 of 30 May 2007 laying down detailed rules for the application of Council Regulation (EC) No 1255/1999 as regards the granting of private storage aid for certain cheeses in the 2007/2008 storage period
These are but three of the 216 EU regulations introduced since 1 May. They were sent to us by the Bruges Group. Gradually it dawned on me. The European Union is erecting a Soviet-style command control economy - because we know how economically successful the USSR was, don't we?
EU bureaucrats willfully ignore the model of free, spontaneously evolving economies with prices independently decided by producers and consumers, even though these economies, Britain, Australia, the United States, have been largely successful for hundreds of years. They ignore them because they cannot control them.
ITEM Commission Decision of 21 May 2007 on guidelines to assist Member States in preparing the single integrated multi-annual national control plan provided for in Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council (notified under document number C(2007) 2099) (1) 2007/364/EC
What do you think that means? Do you hope they will stop with fruits when they have already decided to scrap presumption of innocence and trial by jury? Do you think that when their superstate is really running they will stop at the front door of your house or mine, or wait politely outside your bedroom? They will want to control everything we do because as their political and economic control grows so will their paranoia and their lust for power.
Am I speculating wildly on this beautiful Oregon morning? The experiences of my Czech relatives under the Soviet tyranny say I am not.
The wonderful Bruges Group does terrific work alerting us to the slithering menace of EU regulations. If you are not a member, you might consider joining.
Or you could just wait until you see the whites of their eyes.
