Which doctors does the NHS prefer?
It’s been widely reported in the press that many of the suspects in the latest attempted terrorist attack were foreign Muslim doctors. If they are guilty, they deliberately tried to murder innocent people.
David Abbott, MD, MRCP, my partner on this website and blog, trained at University College Hospital, London, rose through the ranks at UCH and Addenbrooks Hospital, was a senior registrar, and a locum consultant at a London teaching hospital. Seeking adventure he went with his young family to America, and practiced medicine with distinction for thirty years. Still a British citizen, and with his command of English only minimally impaired by his American sojourn, David applied to practice in the NHS last year. He found bureaucratic obstacles at every turn. Apparently the NHS gives preference to Muslim doctors from the Mideast. Perhaps if he changed his name to Muhammad Abbas he would have more luck.
