I like navy fashions on men and women. They have the look of summer and sun - the deep blue of the sea and the white of the wave, white sands, white clouds.
An exhibit at the National Maritime Museum celebrates the "enduring influence" of nautical styles and runs through 2 December. It begins with the Victorian fashion for dressing affluent children in sailor suits and shows the latest fashion designs, which seem pretty far removed from their inspiration.
Wish I felt better about this exhibition than I do. It does not seem exactly anchored in reality, with the Royal Navy in so much trouble recently. However, it's hard to resist that blue and white. They were brilliant uniforms, evoking the adventure and discipline that people looked for in the Royal Navy.
