Tragedy in Afghanistan

We are so very sorry to hear that in Afghanistan soldiers in the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment have been killed by fire from an American fighter plane called in to support them.

We have written about the importance of the work being done by British soldiers in Afghanistan and about their gallantry here, here, and here.

At the request of their families, the names of the men who died have not yet been released.

The regimental headquarters of the Royal Anglians is in Bury St Edmunds, a place we have described in posts below and in The Knight. The regiment recruits mainly from the counties of Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

Our thoughts are with those who loved them.

Their bravery will be remembered.
