Historic first - East Stoke calls for referendum on EU

East Stoke voters supported the idea of a referendum on the EU constitution, otherwise known as the Reform Treaty.

"Using a little-known part of the law, they held a parish poll asking the 339 residents: "Do you want a referendum on the EU Constitutional Treaty?"

The answer was a resounding Yes."

And a clear message to the Prime Minister and Parliament.

Thank you, East Stoke.

Update: The Sunday papers will have more on the story. East Stoke has many part-time residents. The turn-out of fulltime residents was impressive.
