Remembering Will

cr_shakespeare_globe_stamp.jpg

William Shakespeare died today in 1616, and according to romantic tradition was born today in 1564.

He wrote about lovers, soldiers, men and women corrupted by power, innocents, heroines, the old man looking back on his life and the young man looking forward; about the cruel, the comic, and the chivalrous, about those who had forgotten who they were and those who had remembered. He wrote infrequently about the pleasures of the city, but deeply and happily about English country. He is a good man to remember on St George's Day.
