I've spent quite a bit of time in Canada over the last six months. This is a long weekend, with Monday being Victoria Day, celebrated in honour of Queen Victoria and our current reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia; the Victoria Cross has been awarded to 94 brave Canadian soldiers; and the monarch's head appears on all Canadian currency and banknotes. So Canada is rather pleased that the first Canadian has just married into the Royal family.
From Victoria the Times Colonist reports that "a radiant Autumn Kelly" exited St. George's Chapel yesterday with her husband Peter Phillips, the Queen's oldest grandson. "The 300 guests, 70 of whom flew over from Canada, delivered cheers, applause and a few whistles as the hour-long service concluded."
