Implantable sensor to monitor heart patients
I often wonder what research is going on in universities and industry that we have not yet heard about. Yesterday Imperial College London revealed an interesting advance in heart medicine.
Researchers at the college "have received a £760,000 grant from the Wellcome Trust to develop a miniature sensor, smaller than a five pence piece, to monitor the hearts of people who have undergone heart operations or who have conditions that could lead to heart failure". The sensor and reader device will alert patient and doctor if a heart reading reaches critical levels, and help to avert a crisis. Perhaps it will also give patients and families peace of mind.
