The "masterpiece that killed Orwell"

Robert McCrum recently described Orwell's struggle to complete 1984, a terrifying and prophetic novel about Big Brother government smothering our liberty and happiness. His effort to write his book on the island of Jura while ill with TB resembles a hideous and months-long torture.

I think it might be more accurate to say that Orwell sacrificed his life to warn and defend us.
