David dashed to the Grange to listen to Norma the other night. He had Lucy, his brother Roger's dog, travelling with him. At intermission David flew out to bring her refreshment and take her for a stroll. Lucy enjoyed the grounds, and David enjoyed the opera.

English soprano Claire Rutter is "a thrilling, starry Norma, her voice secure even in the stratospheric top notes," wrote a reviewer. "The entire audience leapt to their feet when she took her bow."

It's foolish - I guess - but the only person who can sing Casta Diva for me is Callas. A fierce and broken heart.
