Burning Turner at the Tate?
JMW Turner, The Burning of the Houses of Lords and Commons, 1835
Turner saw the fire in 1834 and painted several canvases from memory.
Turner & the Masters is at the Tate. From a few reviews I have received the impression that Turner doesn't come off all that well when his visual riffs on great paintings are compared to the originals.
I hope that's not true. The Turner paintings so many people respond to are those that are entirely and unforgettably his.
