At Celtic Manor

The 2010 Ryder Cup. A bit under water. We mention this Europeanized tournament only because Telegraph Blogs Editor and Nick Pearce are covering it and their commentary may interest those who like golf. As play has recently been suspended due to Welsh weather, we give you PG Wodehouse -

Golf, like measles, should be caught young.

Sudden success in golf is like the sudden acquisition of wealth. It is apt to unsettle and deteriorate the character.

Golf. . .is the infallible test. The man who can go into a patch of rough alone, with the knowledge that only God is watching him, and play his ball where it lies, is the man who will serve you faithfully and well.

If the Ryder Cup hadn't been "Europeanized" the British Isles team wouldn't stand a chance of winning. So in this case teaming up with the rest of Europe is probably a very good thing.
