Team of wounded British servicemen to cross America by cycle

f_team_battle_back.jpg

Four of eight wounded servicemen, including Sgt Simon Harmer, who lost both legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, will attempt the feat using specially adapted hand bicycles. To operate the hand bikes, the cyclists lie on their backs, just inches from the ground and propel themselves using only the power in their arms.

. . .Beginning at the Pacific they will cover 3,051 miles in eight days, crossing 12 states, and in the process tackling 100,000 feet worth of climbs.

They are Team Battle Back, riding for the charity Help for Heroes, and they are out to "prove that there is a life beyond injury".

It's going to be gruelling, and it may be dangerous. Do give them a hand.
