Who thinks Britain is rubbish now? The volunteer spirit

Jeremy Paxman revels in the achievements of the London Olympics.

Including 70,000 terrific volunteers.

All part of a spirit which began long ago. More people in London gave more to charity in the 19th century than the combined budgets of several European countries.

The motto of this volunteer spirit was If something needs doing, the person to do it is - you!

And very likely you'll find many will step forward to help you.
