Royal Navy helicopter rescues stricken fishermen

A helicopter from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose has airlifted seven fishermen to safety, on Monday 29 January 2007, after their fishing boat sank 150 miles (240 km) west of the Scilly Isles.

The Coastguard and RAF Kinloss co-ordinated the rescue operation and scrambled two Royal Navy Sea King helicopters from 771 Naval Air Squadron who are based at the Culdrose Air Station in Cornwall.

The seven people saved in this latest mission brings the total number of lives saved involving 771 Squadron to 40 so far this year. This is on top of the 180 lives saved in 2006.
