Summer strawberries

'Wilmot Superb', Charles John Robertson, 1824,
for the Horticultural Society.
The first delicious strawberries are here, a week past the summer solstice. (This is midsummer as farmers keep the calendar - the 1st of May opening the season and the 1st of August closing it; summer flying past them, into the mown fields.)
I wonder if Robertson ate strawberries after painting them. I hope so.
We wrote briefly about the founding of the Horticultural Society and Charles Robertson in ripeness is all. He was one of a number of artists who worked for the Horticultural Society.
