Queen Unveils New Zealand Memorial

New Zealand
Today the Queen opened a New Zealand memorial at Hyde Park Corner that commemorates the New Zealanders who fought so bravely with Britain in both World Wars.
At the time of the first World War, there were only a million people living in New Zealand. Ten percent of the population volunteered to fight. Of those, 18,000 were killed.
Listening only to the news on the BBC, one might have missed the fact that at the time of the First World War New Zealanders were subjects of the British Crown. Many of them still are.
