Tate in America
The Tate’s American endowment has just had a very successful fundraiser in New York. The endowment was set up in 1988 by the British-born New York insurance mogul Sir Edwin Manton. He was the creator of the American International Group, AIG, and a collector of paintings by Constable. Sir Edwin established the American Fund for the Tate Gallery to express his affection for his birthplace (he always remained a British citizen) and his enthusiasm for America.
