Open air theatre at the Regent's Park
You can see how lovely it is as the green landscape disappears in the twilight and a friendly crowd of theatre-goers is drawn into another world. Imagine then that a huge airliner suddenly rises above the trees and soars very low over the set in a transfixing moment that suspends you between danger and delight. The unexpected is one of the pleasures of watching theatre in the open air. (I have never forgotten that plane's aerial entrance above the Merry Wives of Windsor at Regent's Park.) Open Air Theatre at the park celebrates its 75th season this year. The first performance opens 28 May.
