Extraordinary 13th century people
It was blustery and misty yesterday morning. Oak leaves spattered the ground, and the geese, flying invisibly, were calling loudly as they made their way through cloud.
It was a day to make you long for a fire, and to need one if you lacked central heating. I thought of those men and women of 13th century England, keeping warm as best they could as autumn blew in, without any of my comforts, yet drafting Magna Carta, building cathedrals, carving the leaves of Southwell Minster and hunting, not shooting, deer for their dinner. Extraordinary people.
