A sense of humour gone missing?
The Times, unaccountably basing its story on the opinions of an American, has suggested that Britain is a country filled with grumpy people. Dashed if we can think why; however, we don’t believe humour has vanished entirely. We have reason to believe that amused and amusing British wit, sometimes sardonic, sometimes self-deprecating, and sometimes just reliably funny, remains alive and well. It is, as our octogenarian friend Celia used to observe happily about her first boyfriend, “still extant”.
