Zoological Society of London photographs rare pygmy hippos

We wrote about the Zoological Society of London’s efforts last year to preserve the pygmy hippopotamus, which is under assault from poachers greedy for the beautiful ivory of its teeth.
Today we learned that a team led by Ben Collen of the Zoological Society used special cameras in Liberia’s Sapo National Park to search for the animals, and have discovered that a population of the shy, elusive hippos still survives. Knowing where they live, ZSL can work to protect them.
That is good news.
