The saint of second chances
I like to think of Patrick as the saint of second chances. He was born in the west of Britain, was kidnapped as a teenager, carried to Ireland as a slave, escaped, and returned to Ireland when he was middle-aged to build Christian communities of learning and peace. He was the second person in recorded history to denounce slavery (the first was Euripedes). Details here. Happy St Patrick's Day.
