Country roses and a vision of Britain

David snapped these roses on a country walk from Winchester to Salisbury.
This part of England was described by William Cobbett in his Rural Rides. He is really an astonishing writer because he describes country with the eye of a farmer and poet and a radical reformer and defender of the working man. He appears in our Liberty Timeline (scroll down).
While looking for a map of his travels I bumped into a site called A Vision of Britain. It quotes Cobbett and many other travellers, and presents maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions of Britain between 1801 and 2001. It looks quite interesting.
