Switching from a PC to a Mac has made me happy, but the impact of Microsoft founder Bill Gates on the world (and even on my Mac) has been hugely beneficial. That Gates is descended from a Yorkshireman who left for America in 1635 has lately been in the news. Gates has become part of the Anglo-American tradition of charitable giving with the Gates Foundation he established with his wife Melinda.
