Petraeus commends SAS
If anyone but US General David Petraeus had said so, you might doubt the veracity of the statement, but Petraeus is a straight talker. About British special forces he said -
"They have helped immensely in the Baghdad area, in particular, to take down the al-Qaeda car bomb networks and other al-Qaeda operations in Iraq's capital city, so they have done a phenomenal job in that regard," he said.. . .Very little is known about the success of their missions but Gen Petraeus indicated yesterday that working alongside their American colleagues in Delta Force the British had had a significant impact in defeating Al Qa'eda in Iraq.
. . .Quoting the Special Air Service motto "Who Dares Wins" the general said there had been numerous successes on many "very important operations".
"They have exceptional initiative, exceptional skill, exceptional courage and, I think, exceptional savvy. I can't say enough about how impressive they are in thinking on their feet," said Gen Petraeus, the main architect of "surge" strategy that has seen a substantial decrease in violence with the influx of extra American troops.
The Telegraph article alludes to some of their missions.
