David is currently, rapidly crossing several time zones so I thought it would be a good day to rewind a post.
On this day in 1884, Greenwich Mean Time was established as the global time meridian.
The British Empire's influence contributed to establishing GMT. The impact of two Britons - John Harrison and Nevil Maskelyne - in helping sailors all over the world figure out where they were also played a leading role, as the Science Timeline reveals.
