Somewhere, up in the balcony, Kate Winslet's dad was able to whistle so loudly that everyone could hear when she asked where he was.
Congratulations to Kate Winslet for winning an Oscar for best actress in a leading role. This was her first Oscar. She received a standing ovation.

Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire
Congratulations to Danny Boyle and Slumdog Millionaire for taking home eight Oscars, including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography and best musical score. This was an Anglo-Indian production.
I wish that Dev Patel, who plays the hero, had won an Oscar. Born in London, he is only 18, but he was brilliant.
Australian Heath Ledger received a posthumous Oscar for his supporting role in Dark Knight.
Australian Hugh Jackman was the Award Ceremony's capable host.

The UK is going to the dogs with its population facing poverty & enslavement.
The all-show, no-substance OSCARS, are a microcosm of modern society - media mediocrity & mentality (politicians, footballers etc. included) get the goodies; real contributors to human advancement (scientists, doctors, nurses, engineers, farmers etc. go unnoticed & unrewarded in the main for their contributions!
