I know that your article and my stories about honesty are now archived, but nevertheless I thought that the following link might be of interest to you for squirreling away for the future. It’s particularly interesting to me as I was born and brought up in the small market town of Settle, North Yorkshire. When a story about a shopkeeper leaving his deserted store open on Boxing Day with an honesty box that didn't lose a penny appeared on a Yorkshire website and people were invited to pass comment, no-one did, because people in that part of the world would not consider it all that unusual for someone to be so trusting!We have recently returned from a family holiday in Kettlewell, a village in North Yorkshire. We asked beforehand where the key would be kept to let ourselves into the cottage and were told that it would be on the top of the soil in the plant pot, next to the front door, and it was! They could probably have got away with not even locking the door at all. Newspapers are currently using the phrase ‘broken Britain’ on so many of their news pages, but in truth, this is still a country that’s far from broken! Good news doesn’t tend to sell newspapers.
And there's truth to that.
