Cook here

View from Cape Foulweather
Since I'm sitting a hundred miles inland from the Oregon Coast, I'd like to mention that on March 7th 1778 Captain James Cook first reported sighting our coast. No doubt he had his reasons for naming Cape Foulweather.
Cook mapped the coast from California all the way to the Bering Strait. He developed charting and marine surveying to a remarkable level of sophistication. Only satellite technology has proved superior.
