Hooray for the good sense of the much abused British public. The Spectator made the discovery - undetected by Westminster - in a new style of deliberative polling.
The old idea that it is "heartless to want cuts, and that higher state spending is the non-negotiable priority of modern, compassionate Britain" is false. Whether there is a political party prepared to save the nation from catastrophic debt remains an open question.
